It’s been a bit since I posted a cocktail, right? No, wrong? Whatever, it was last Monday, so at least it’s been a week, and it’s been even longer since a Thirsty Thursday, so here we are.
In an attempt to get yet another fig recipe posted before they go out of season – it goes by way too fast – these are also a perfect way to use up the rest of those lingering fresh figs in your fridge before they go to waste. Wasted food = wasted money, and that’s never cool, even if you’re wasted. Not that I ever get wasted, way too old for that shiz.
I wish I could describe the taste more eloquently, but it’s pretty much just refreshing orange goodness. I don’t really taste the figs so much as I recognize the thicker, smoothie-like texture they provide. Their subtle sweetness is just enough so you don’t have to add anything else, which is perfect because I’m def not a fan of sugar in my mixed drinks… unless it’s a mojito, then all bets are off.
I’m also a fan of my new photography space in the new house. There’s a huge open window with tons of light, and I can get cool shots with coveted backlight, something that really lacked in our old place. It doesn’t actually make the drink taste better, but
after a few I think it does it does make for fun photo shoots. Luckily, it also faces the backyard, not main street, so at least for the time being my neighbors won’t think they have a wacko standing 0n tables taking pictures of who knows what all weekend long. Ahh the life a of food blogger.
Upon first sip, this was a bit thick to drink through a straw (my preferred drinking utensil), but after a few minutes the ice starts to melt, and it’s perfect. I suggest whipping out a camera/iphone/instagraming device and giving it your best shot, before you know it 3 minutes have passed and you can get your slurp on.
Happy Thursday and go fig yourself, I mean get your fig on… I mean make this drink with figs, it’s delicious.
Orange Fig Cocktail
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 1.5 oranges plus remaining slices for garnish
- 6 figs
- 3-4 oz. vodka
Start by peeling the oranges, and taking off the stem tip of the figs. Add everything to a blender, except the ice. Blend until smooth.
Pour drink over ice, and let sit for a minute or two for a thinner consistency, or you could add club soda if desired.
Serve with orange slices as garnish.
