Tarragon Lemon Water

With summer, typical schedules and routines tend to fly out the window, because, well duh, its Summertime! For me that looks like shorter work days, indecently pale legs peeking below skirts, more happy hours and less water. WAAAYYY less water. During the normal year (i.e. not summer) I drink at least 2 liters a day (yes, it takes effort, or what I like to call ‘conscious drinking’ but it’s a sacrifice every girls’ got to make.)

Yesterday, it hit near 7 pm before I had finished a full glass of water. Ouch. Sorry cells, skin, and brain, didn’t mean to leave you out to dry.

Fear not! I have a solution. Flavored water. Easy, pretty, flavor water, that others may or may not mistake for lemonade and force you into a brawl defending it’s sugarless characteristic. Believe you me, it’s just tarragon and lemon.

Tarragon, as you may know, is a distant relative (alike only in flavor) to black licorice and a step outside the common herb harvest (thyme, basil and rosemary.) Well, tarragon, I’d like to be the first to welcome you to our home.

You really gave a good shot at our first endeavor together and I’d like to thank you for keeping your aromatic goodness and pungent liquorice flavor in check. After about 2-3 hours of steeping you with lemon and water, you do get a bit much, but your subtle natural sweetness lingers for hours, and keeps me coming back for more. I’m thinking you might make a nice addition to my brewing obsession kombucha, and a cocktail in the near future.

So all in all super glad you showed up tarragon, here’s to fighting thirst everywhere!

Tarragon Lemon Water

1 L filtered water

2-4 sprigs of tarragon

1 lemon, juiced

Add the juice and sprigs to the water. Enjoy immediately, or let steep up to 2 hours (then remove tarragon) and continue to hydrate!
