resolutions para 2012

Ron, Veronica, wait up, Lui and I are joining you.



Yes ladies and gents, mark today being the second day I have taking a liking to yogging within 3 days. I dare say, this could become a habit. If I stick to it.

I totally thought about waiting till the New Year to get this exercise thing going, but then I thought again. Why wait. Why put off to tomorrow what I can do today. Why not start yogging now. There’s no good reason why not, so I did. We did (aka Lui told me he was going and I didn’t want to be left behind.)

Here’s to habit forming in 2012!

I’m aiming to make a few new habits this coming year, check ’em out, tell me what you think:

1. Yoga – Went to my first ashtanga yoga class the other day, amazing. As I felt the sweat drip down my face and spot right onto my mat I thought, I could do this, again, and again, and I might even get good at it.

2. Yogging/Jogging – Let’s be real Lauren, you aren’t a runner. Right now. But if you start out yogging, and have reasonable expectations (which do not yet include a daily 5K) you might just find a runner in yourself.

3. Reading – It’s sad, but I don’t read enough. For pleasure that is. I read tons of articles about autism and behavior interventions, but not so much about history, love, sci-fi, fact or fiction. This is one habit yet to be cracked, perhaps a visit to the beach and the airplane ride home will give it a boost.

4. Body Whispering Listening – We are beautifully engineered beings that send off signals, warnings, smoke alarms when things go haywire in our systems. There is a reason for that. There’s a reason I feel like $%#&@ after a night out drinking non-water drinks. And I should listen to my body when it says, ‘you do that to me, I do this to you.’ Same thing applies with overeating, sugar overloading, and processed indulging (darn you Doritos.) I’m not saying these events aren’t going happen ever again, but I’m saying I’m gonna start listening to my body when it says, ‘No, don’t eat that.’ and ‘Put the bag down!’ so it shouldn’t be happening too often.

5. Silent Conversations –  Sounds a bit weird right? What I mean is I’m going to start being more silent in conversations. Sometimes I’m a bit… talkative, hyper, loud, assertive, passionate.. and I’m pretty sure that’s a nice way of putting it. I want/need to listen more. Take in and process what others are saying, instead of diving head first into conversations. I just might learn something.

And that’s all I’m gonna bite off now. Nothing too specific but definitely a more healthy geared 2012, equipped with an exercised body and mind and a reflective soul I pretty darn excited for this coming year. They say it takes 21 days to make a habit, I’ve also heard 27 days, but that’s a bit far off for me. How about day by day. Each day I take a step in conquering the goals I’ve set for 2012. That seems a bit more doable – and hey, it may actually become a habit!
