It is the perfect meal. in my head. This meal just seems so simple, yet so amazing, I was almost too scared to make it. I kept on thinking, What if it doesn’t live up to the hype?
Then I make it again. Another way. I give it another try.
That’s my new motto in life. Stop giving up and go for it until you succeed. Pretty easy right? Don’t worry, I don’t think I’ve come up with something profound. In fact, I’m sure many of you already do this on a regular basis. Well, move on over, I’m getting on the bandwagon. Cooking has a way of doing that to you. Everyone has failed meals, or entire holidays in my case. But each time you learn something new, a different tweek you can make to improve the dish, or highlight another flavor. If I only cooked perfect meals, I’d never get in front of that stove! and maybe I’d be really skinny. Oh well, I prefer to go for it, let my creative cooking juices flow, and savor the result.
Here is my
hyped baked spaghetti. I used whole wheat pasta, San Marzano whole tomatoes, garlic and fresh basil. I know real creative.
Quality ingredients really do live up to the hype. This dish is awesome as is or could be slightly adjusted many ways for equally delightful flavor.
Next time I’m chopping up the garlic to even out the flavor a bit more, and unless you like whole cloves of garlic in your mouth, like me, I’d suggest this route.
Maybe a crust of Parmesan cheese and bread crumbs would be nice, but not necessary.
The simplicity of this dish is my favorite part.
box of spaghetti, or your favorite pasta shape
big can of San Marzano tomatoes (whole, diced, crushed, whichever)
6-8 cloves garlic, minced
sprinkle of raw sugar (optional- ode to my mom)
Make the pasta according to package but reduce the cooking time by a minute or two. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup of cooking liquid and transfer pasta to a baking dish. Top with tomatoes, and add the rest of the ingredients, pouring the liquid around the edge of dish. Bake at 350 ° for 20-30 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
